Futures on major US indices were trading mixed at the time of writing. Dow Jones and S&P 500 futures inched up to 25169 and 3008.12 respectively at the time of writing.
On the economic front, US Pending Home Sales for May is scheduled to be released today at 10 am ET. Home Sales are expected to rise by 19.7% on a month-on-month basis.
European equities were trading higher on Monday morning. In the Cash Markets, the DAX 30 and the CAC 40 were up 0.28% and 0.01% respectively at the time of writing.
On the data front, the Eurozone Consumer Confidence for June released earlier today came in at -14.7. Consumer Confidence was in line with market expectations.
Asia-Pacific markets closed in negative territory on the first trading day of the week. The ASX 200 index dropped 1.51% to close at 5,815. The Nikkei 225 declined 2.3% to close at 21,995.04. The Kospi index fell 1.93% to finish its trading day at 2,093.48.
On the economic front, Japan’s Retail Sales (YoY) for May released earlier today came in at -12.3%. Retail Sales were below the consensus estimates of a fall of 11.6%.
US Dollar Index futures edged down 0.01% to 97.36 at the time of writing. The US dollar rose today as a rise in COVID-19 infections and the re-imposition of curbs to halt its spread had traders worried that a global economic recovery could be derailed even before it had taken root.
In the Commodity Markets, Silver and Gold inched down to 17.720 and 1769.02 respectively at the time of writing. In news related to commodity markets, crude prices fell today as COVID-19 cases advanced in the US and other places, leading some nations to resume partial lockdowns that could drop oil demand. Gold gained today as concerns over a surge in coronavirus cases worldwide reduced optimism about a swift economic recovery, boosting demand for the bullion.
In the Cryptocurrency Markets, Bitcoin rose to 9065.62 and Ethereum fell to 222.98 at the time of writing. In news related to the cryptocurrency markets, prices of major cryptocurrencies were trading mostly higher on Monday morning. Bitcoin’s market capitalization rose to $166.97B at the time of writing.
