Gold Rips Through 4,130 as the Dollar Hits a One-Month Low, Oil Bleeds After an 8% Crash and the 12:00 GMT BoE Hike Decides if the Breakout Holds

Market Overview

The Democratic sweep has flipped the commodity board since Tuesday’s vote: the dollar is at a one-month low, gold has ripped through its falling channel and oil has lost its war premium. The next six hours decide whether it sticks. Gold (4,130.29, +1.70%) has broken above the top of its channel for the first time since August and is trading at a two-week high, with silver (52.8136, +1.08%) bouncing from the channel floor after dipping under 50 earlier this week. WTI crude (88.25, +0.23%) is holding just above its 86.88 slow average after Wednesday’s roughly 8% crash, its lowest close since 31 August, as traders bet a Democratic Congress will rein in military action against Iran. Copper (6.46435, −0.35%) is stuck near a three-month low as lower tariff odds drain the US premium, natural gas (2.936, −0.78%) is capped by warm weather and wheat (609.2, −0.39%) is near four-month lows with RSI at 25.45.

The Bank of England has not yet spoken, and its 12:00 GMT decision is the first big test: a 25 bp hike to 4.00% is almost fully priced, so the vote split and guidance matter more than the hike itself. US jobless claims and USDA export sales follow at 13:30 GMT and the EIA gas storage report lands at 15:30 GMT. With about an 81% chance of a December Fed hike still priced, a dollar bounce could stall gold under its 4,204 average quickly. Daily RSI readings of 52.50, 40.66, 40.60, 49.62, 36.69 and 25.45 show gold as the only market with momentum above 50 and wheat and crude closest to oversold. The desk plan: buy dips in gold, silver and wheat, and sell bounces in copper, natural gas and WTI crude.

Key highlights

  • Gold: Price is 4,130.29 above the 4,075.02 fast average after breaking the falling channel; 4,203.81 and 4,209.90 are the caps.
  • Copper: Price is 6.46435 under all three averages and testing the channel floor; 6.5549 caps rallies.
  • Silver: Price is 52.8136 bouncing from the channel floor; the 55.0310 fast average is the first hurdle.
  • Natural Gas: Price is 2.936 under the 2.951, 2.964 and 2.974 averages; the EIA storage report at 15:30 GMT is the catalyst.
  • WTI Crude Oil: Price is 88.25 on the 86.88 slow average after Wednesday’s 8% plunge, with RSI 36.69.
  • Wheat: Price is 609.2 with RSI 25.45, the most oversold of the six, near the channel floor.

What’s Moving Commodities Today

High Lifts Gold

Gold jumps to a two-week high as the dollar hits a one-month low after the Democratic sweep

Spot gold is up about 1.7% to roughly 4,130 to 4,135 as Treasury yields fall and the dollar slides to its weakest in more than a month. Markets still price about an 81% chance of a Fed hike in December, which keeps a lid on the rally under the 4,204 average.

High Weighs on WTI

Oil extends its slide for a fourth session after Wednesday’s 8% crash on Iran-deal hopes

WTI settled at 88.12 on Wednesday and Brent at 94.62, both the lowest closes since 31 August, as traders bet a Democratic Congress will limit Trump’s military options. Trump has ruled out immediate strikes, though an Iranian official said a deal is still out of reach.

High Lifts Silver

Silver rebounds toward 53 after slipping under 50 earlier this week

Spot silver is up about 1.7% at roughly 53.1 with gold, while platinum and palladium gained 2.1% and 2.6%. It is still down about 28% on the year, so the bounce sits inside a much deeper downtrend.

Medium Weighs on Copper

Copper hovers near a three-month low as the election cuts the odds of a US refined-copper tariff

LME three-month copper fell as much as 1.5% on Wednesday to its lowest since August before steadying near $14,000 a ton. Saxo’s Ole Hansen says fewer tariff odds could weigh more than any demand change, though the Yangshan premium near $200 shows firm Chinese import demand.

Medium Weighs on Natural Gas

Warm weather and a storage surplus keep gas capped near 2.94 ahead of the EIA report

Forecasts stay warmer than normal through 19 November and storage is estimated at about 1.4% above normal. Chicago cash prices fell to a 23-month low near $1.66, although Lower 48 output has slipped to 111.2 bcfd in November.

Medium Lifts Wheat

Wheat edges up on a weak dollar and a lower Russian export forecast, but stays near four-month lows

IKAR cut its 2026-27 Russian wheat export forecast to 39.5 million tons from 42 million. CBOT wheat is about 25% below its early-September high as Russia and Ukraine ship more grain by alternative routes.

High Dollar risk

Bank of England has yet to decide: a hike to 4.00% is expected at 12:00 GMT, a test for the dollar and metals

A 25 bp rise from 3.75% is almost fully priced after energy costs pushed UK inflation to 3.5%, with markets also betting on three more hikes in 2027. Sterling is near a seven-week high around 1.346 to 1.350, so a 7-2 vote with cautious guidance would be the softer-pound route and could give the dollar a bounce.

Medium Oil and gas risk

Hormuz shipping is recovering, but gas carriers are still being targeted in the Gulf

Reports say Strait of Hormuz shipments are close to pre-war levels, yet Gulf News notes Murban trades about $7 over Brent, a sign physical Gulf supply is still tight. Qatar condemned an attack on a gas carrier on 3 November, a headline risk for LNG and gas.

Trade Setups for Today

Ranked in the order gold, copper, silver, natural gas, crude oil and wheat, valid until 21:00 GMT today. A 4-hour close beyond the stop cancels the idea.

Reward:risk is the distance from entry to each target divided by the distance from entry to the stop. A third target for each market is in its section below. Prices are feed prices from the daily charts at about 09:33 GMT on 5 November. Every entry sits away from the current price and needs a pullback or a bounce to trigger, and the 12:00 GMT BoE decision and 15:30 GMT gas report can gap prices through them. Three ideas are long and three are short, so a hawkish BoE with a firm dollar would hit the longs together. Levels are conditional technical references, not recommendations.

Risk Scenario Analysis

The BoE at 12:00 GMT, the US-Iran headlines and the 15:30 GMT gas storage report are the swing factors for the rest of today.

A hawkish BoE and a firmer dollar, with Iran talks stalling: metals fade and oil rebounds

A rebound in the dollar after the BoE, a strong jobless-claims print or a stall in US-Iran talks would pull gold, silver and copper back to support, lift WTI toward its broken trendline and hit wheat, while a lean gas storage build would lift gas.

Copper Analysis: Price Sits Near the Floor of a Falling Channel, Under All Three Averages

6.4643 −0.0225 (−0.35%) at about 09:33 GMT Previous close 6.4869

Outlook: Bias is lower while 6.55 caps rallies. Copper is near 6.46 a pound after the election cut the odds of a US refined-copper tariff, which has propped up Comex prices all year; three-month LME copper hit its lowest since August on Wednesday before steadying near $14,000.

Wheat Analysis: Price Is Deeply Oversold Near the Floor of a Falling Channel

609.2 −2.4 (−0.39%) at about 09:33 GMT Previous close 611.6

Outlook: Bias is a mean-reversion bounce while 600 holds. The CFD is near 609 cents with CBOT futures around $6.02 a bushel, near four-month lows after a nine-week slide, though Russia’s lower export forecast and a weak dollar are giving the market a lift.

Conclusion

The dollar is at a one-month low and Fed hike bets are still alive, so we prefer buying dips in gold near 4,090 (medium conviction), silver near 52.30 and wheat near 603.0, and selling bounces in copper near 6.5450, natural gas near 2.975 and WTI crude near 90.50, all at low conviction. The session risks are the Bank of England at 12:00 GMT, US jobless claims and USDA export sales at 13:30 GMT, the EIA storage report at 15:30 GMT and any US-Iran headline. A 4-hour close under 4,040 in gold or above 93.00 in WTI would change the picture.
