Bitcoin Clings to 80,000 After a $378M Short Squeeze as the Dollar Sinks to a One-Month Low and the BoE Has Hiked: the 13:30 GMT US Jobless Claims Decide Breakout or Fade

Market Overview

Bitcoin is fighting for its life at 80,000: the squeeze that rescued it from a near-two-month low is fading, and in the next 70 minutes the market learns whether it was a bottom or a bounce. Three forces collided in the last 48 hours. A Democratic sweep of Congress crushed the dollar to its lowest since 30 September, about $378 million of shorts were liquidated in under an hour, and US spot ETFs flipped back to $74.6 million of inflows after $1.16 billion of outflows. BTC (80,077, −0.44% on the daily candle) is now parked on its 80,132 average with 82,071 overhead and 76,985 underneath. Ether (2,410.8, −0.48%) is the strongest chart, XRP (1.3132, +0.70%) and Solana (95.87, +0.37%) are green, and BNB (712.79, −0.87%) is the odd one out, still carrying the scar of the $6.34 billion Binance hack.

The Bank of England has already hiked to 4.00%, so the dollar’s next move belongs to Washington. About an 80.7% chance of a December Fed hike is still priced, and US initial jobless claims land at 13:30 GMT, with consensus at 197K against 194K last time. A print under 194K says the labour market is too hot for the Fed to relent, lifts the dollar and strands crypto under its averages; a print above 200K extends the dollar slide and gives Bitcoin room to attack 82,071. The Wall Street open at 14:30 GMT is the second test. RSI readings of 49.50, 52.93, 49.58, 38.04 and 45.01 leave Ether as the only coin above 50 and Solana nearest to oversold. Desk plan: buy dips in Bitcoin, Ether and XRP, sell bounces in Solana and BNB. This report is a 12:20 GMT snapshot, and the claims figure is not yet out.

Key highlights

  • Bitcoin: Price is 80,077 on the 80,132 average; 82,071 caps and 76,985 is the floor that keeps the rebound intact.
  • Ethereum: Price is 2,410.8 above the 2,361.8 and 2,348.8 averages, RSI 52.93; 2,506 is the cap.
  • XRP: Price is 1.3132 on the 1.31145 average inside a triangle; 1.2941 supports and 1.3860 caps.
  • Solana: Price is 95.87 under all three averages with RSI 38.04; 98.96 to 99.83 is the sell zone.
  • BNB: Price is 712.79 on the triangle floor above 704.30; 724.49 caps bounces.

What’s Moving Crypto Today

High Lifts Bitcoin

Bitcoin holds above 80,000 after a $378 million short squeeze as US spot ETFs flip back to inflows

Bitcoin recovered from about 75,600 as shorts were forced out in under an hour, and spot Bitcoin ETFs drew $74.6 million on 4 November, ending three sessions of outflows worth $1.16 billion. BlackRock’s IBIT still shed $201.2 million, its fourth straight outflow, while Fidelity’s fund took in about $237 million.

High Dollar risk

Bank of England raised Bank Rate to 4.00% at 12:00 GMT, its first hike since August 2023

The 25 bp rise was fully priced, and Governor Andrew Bailey said there was enough inflationary pressure in the pipeline from energy costs. Sterling had already run to its highest since mid-September near 1.349, so the guidance on further hikes, not the move itself, will set the dollar tone for the afternoon.

High Lifts Crypto

Dollar index slides to its lowest since 30 September as Democrats sweep Congress

The dollar index fell to about 101.25, extending Wednesday’s slide as oil and Treasury yields dropped. Markets still price about an 80.7% chance of a Fed hike in December, so a firm US labour print could revive dollar bids quickly.

High Lifts Ether

Ether reclaims 2,400 as Ether ETFs end a seven-day outflow streak

Ether funds drew $53 million on 4 November after $657 million of outflows, and Ether is up about 6% over 24 hours. FXStreet notes price is holding above the 50, 100 and 200-day averages clustered between about 2,310 and 2,400.

Medium Weighs on BNB

Binance says 98% of hacked assets are replenished, but BNB lags the rebound

The 29 October breach hit about $6.34 billion of assets, and the FBI has linked it to North Korea’s TraderTraitor group, which Pyongyang rejects. BNB traded between 681.40 and 722.78 over 24 hours while the other majors rebounded harder.

Medium Lifts XRP

XRP climbs above 1.31 as whale balances rise and Ripple outlines new XRP Ledger use cases

Ripple and C2FO have announced an XRP Ledger and RLUSD settlement initiative, and CEO Brad Garlinghouse has said Ripple’s US policy goals are unchanged after the midterms. XRP trades just under the 50-day average near 1.34, which analysts treat as the key level.

Medium Capped

Solana bounces off its rising trendline, but ETF demand is flat and hack wallets still hold SOL

Spot Solana ETFs saw zero flows on 2 and 3 November after a record $143.7 million October outflow. FXStreet has SOL testing its 200-day average near 98.08, with 102.71 and 110.60 next.

Medium Policy risk

Democrats plan a crypto market-structure bill, while CryptoQuant warns the correction may not be over

Control of both chambers raises hopes for clearer rules but also slows deregulation, and a CryptoQuant contributor argues Bitcoin has not yet shown the conditions of a confirmed cycle bottom. Year-to-date Bitcoin ETF outflows stand at $1.84 billion.

Trade Setups for Today

Ranked in the order Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, Solana and BNB, valid until 21:00 GMT today. A 4-hour close beyond the stop cancels the idea.

Reward:risk is the distance from entry to each target divided by the distance from entry to the stop. A third target for each coin is in its section below. Prices are feed prices from the daily charts at about 12:20 GMT on 5 November. Every entry sits away from the current price and needs a pullback or a bounce to trigger, and the 13:30 GMT jobless claims can gap prices through them. Three ideas are long and two are short, but crypto moves together, so a sharp risk-on spike would hit both shorts at once and a dollar bounce would hit all three longs. Levels are conditional technical references, not recommendations.

Risk Scenario Analysis

The 13:30 GMT jobless claims, the 14:30 GMT Wall Street open and Binance or policy headlines are the swing factors for the rest of today.

A strong jobs print and a firmer dollar: crypto gives back the midterm bounce

Strong claims data, a hawkish read of the BoE guidance or a weak Wall Street open would lift the dollar, pull Bitcoin and Ether back to their averages and send Solana and BNB toward the triangle floors.

Bitcoin Analysis: Price Pins the 80,000 Line Inside a Falling Channel After a Near-Two-Month Low

80,077 −357 (−0.44%) on the daily candle at about 12:20 GMT Previous close 80,434

Outlook: Bias is higher on dips while 76,985 holds. Bitcoin bounced from a near-two-month low around 75,600 on 3 November; US spot ETFs took in $74.6 million on 4 November, ending three sessions of outflows worth $1.16 billion, though BlackRock’s IBIT still lost $201 million. 82,000 is the cap.

  • RSI 49.50 above its 41.74 average: momentum has turned up. A close above 82,071 breaks the channel top; a close under 76,985 sends price back to the channel floor near 75,600.

Outlook: Bias is neutral to lower while 724.49 caps. BNB is the weakest of the five today: Binance says 98% of assets hit by the 29 October hack have been replenished, but the token is down about 4% over seven days and sits just above its 704.30 average.

  • RSI 45.01 level with its 44.84 average: no momentum either way. A close under 704.30 targets 681.40; a close above 747.31 would end the lower-high sequence.

Setup: Short at 724.00, stop 738.00, targets 706.00, 697.00 and 685.00. Reward:risk 1.3 / 1.9 / 2.8, low conviction. Cancel if a 4-hour close above 738.00, or if Binance announces full replenishment and BNB breaks 747. Cancel if unfilled by 21:00 GMT today.

Conclusion

The dollar is at a one-month low and ETF flows have turned positive, so we prefer buying dips in Bitcoin near 78,800 and Ether near 2,365 (medium conviction) and XRP near 1.2950 (low conviction), and selling bounces in Solana near 99.50 and BNB near 724.00, both at low conviction. The session risks are US initial jobless claims at 13:30 GMT, the Wall Street open at 14:30 GMT and any Binance, hack or crypto-policy headline. A 4-hour close under 76,700 in Bitcoin or above 103.00 in Solana would change the picture.
